     The mutual friendship between the Thais and Cambodians has witnessed the long-lasting relationship between Thailand and the Kingdom of Cambodia. Furthermore, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's interest in the Cambodian art and culture and visits to the Kingdom of Cambodia reflect a concrete relationship which is clearly portrayed to the eyes of the people of the two nations and the international community.

     Whenever Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visits the Kingdom of Cambodia, the people greet her with a warm welcome. Her Royal Highness mentioned contributing a reward to their friendliness by establishing quality education for them. HRH considered giving other types of compensation only a temporary grant which would not be as sustainable as giving education and the basic public health.

     For the operation of this royal sponsorship project, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn gave a royal command to the Office of Aide-de-Camps to collect the primary information and reach for a collaboration from the Kingdom of Cambodia. Besides, HRH graciously formed a committee consisting of the government officers from the Office of Aide-de-Camps, the Supreme Military Commission, the Border Patrol Police Department and the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University. This Steering Committee is responsible for the royal project to contribute education to the Kingdom of Cambodia. The committee started the project by surveying the land, researched the needs of the children, parents and community of the school site several times. Then, the information was submitted for discussion at the meeting between the Cambodian committee led by His Excellency Em Sethy, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Thai ambassador in the Kingdom of Cambodia. Several conferences for the key persons and involved task forces of the two nations were organized in order to make conclusions and reach the bilateral operations. During the time, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn granted a royal visit to the site in Sombor Village, Prasat Sombor District, Kampong Thom Province on November 16, 2000.

     Later, the Committee for Education of the Kingdom of Cambodia visited Thailand between January 29 and February 3, 2001 by making a field trip on education. Then, through the conclusion of the field trip, the delegation made the primary agreement. On May 17, 2001, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over the Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of the royal sponsored high school in Sombor Village, Prasat Sonbor District, Kampong Thom Province, Such performance signifies a sustainable royal grant that will benefit the development of education and public health, which will certainly be favorable to people of the Kingdom of Cambodia forever. As a result, HRH's initiation can successfully reach its goal.
